NC State legend right here. The spicy chicken single handedly saved my life during college, truly gods gift to this earth. Other food is great too like the peanut chicken! I live 20 minutes away but I am more than willing to make that drive to get some spicy chicken that’s for sure. Friendly service, that kid that’s been working there for years is a rockstar. It may feel a bit run down and not as clean as you would want, but that doesn’t matter at all, and it’s still clean, I just think the lighting doesn’t do the place justice; it could use some renovations. Still, must try for anyone visiting or attending NC State, or for anyone living in Raleigh period.

Fast service and delicious. I'd have to say it's probably top 5 of Chinese food places I have ever had. I got the general Tao's and it was not soggy and swimming in sauce. It was crispy and perfectly coated. Flavor was amazing! I've had it with white rice, fried rice, and lo mein noodles as a side. All great choices but I liked the white rice best. No other flavor to get in the way of the flavor from the chicken. Great choice amongst many good food choices out there

Ordered for the first time and had it delivered by door dash. The food arrived on time and nothing was spilled. (We had a few liquids.) Everything was delicious. Shrimp rolls were big and plump. Shrimp Hunan had medium size shrimp and plenty for two to share and was the right amount of spicy we asked for. House lo mein was FULL of meat and shrimp. Sweet and sour chicken was enough for 4! The only thing that could have been better was the little bag of fried noodles. They are one of my favorite things. They were very light in color so could have been cooked a little longer and there was hardly any in the bag. I think we’ve found our new Chinese place! Definitely order again.

5/23 I had a good experience here but I'm actuallly surprised by the negative reviews. Food seemed like any other typical chinese fast food. My General Tso's was great. There was no complaints from my family. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. We were the only customers there so maybe that's why we had a great experience? I'm not sure if I would give them another try. Atmosphere was lacking so not very memorable.

I came here and ordered takeout because I heard it was good, and it looked like they make their dumplings in-house which is very important to me. I'm getting tired of places using manufactured frozen dumplings. They all taste the same and it's not worth the money. So when I went in to order, I asked the person taking my order if the dumplings are made in-house. I was informed that a lot of their items are made in-house, which I was pleased with. I ordered an order of fried dumplings, and then I got a special dinner combo of chicken with broccoli, and I paid extra to have lo mein as the side instead of rice. The special dinner combo also comes with an egg roll. I realized that I ordered a lot of food, but I had been craving good Chinese takeout, and I could make the food stretch for multiple meals. The fried dumplings were definitely homemade. The meat inside was very juicy and had an interesting taste to it. It was more sweet than savory, which was interesting, but not completely a terrible thing. The chicken with broccoli was good, but had a light brown sauce instead of a dark brown sauce that I like. The dark brown sauces tend to be more flavorful and savory. The chicken and broccoli were cooked to my liking, though, and the food was hot and tasty. The lo mein noodles were delicious and tasted fantastic. The egg roll was pretty bland. Overall, the price I paid for the food and the amount of food I got was worth it. I'm always happy to support a local business, too.

The atmosphere might feel a tad run-down for some, as noted by loyal customers, but it’s the comforting food that truly steals the spotlight. The Spicy Chicken, a standout dish, has been heralded by many as a 'god's gift' and a lifeline during college years for numerous students. It's a dish so beloved that fans, like Vishaal Pillai, are willing to travel twenty minutes just for a taste.

Beyond the spicy chicken, the offerings at Golden Dragon are impressive. Peanut Chicken and General Tso’s Chicken receive high praise for their delightful flavors—without the overwhelming sauce that often diminishes similar dishes. Although some reviews mention minor hiccups—like undercooked fried noodles—the overwhelming sentiment is that this is a hidden gem worth revisiting.

In summary, Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant may not boast the sleekest ambiance, but its food more than compensates for it. With a menu rich in flavors and a dedication to service, it has rightfully made a name for itself among Raleigh locals and NC State alumni alike.
